Section G: Job Blueprint (wholesale and retail trade)

The Section G: Job Blueprint stands as the first national roadmap designed to revitalize the wholesale and retail trade sector. It marks a critical step in DTI’s broader vision of fostering a digitally enabled, competitive, and employment-rich Philippine economy.

The blueprint’s development was meticulously shaped by extensive stakeholder engagement and evidence-based consultations. From the 2024 Wholesale and Retail Trade Forum to nationwide focus group discussions, surveys, and rigorous validation sessions, the DTI worked closely with industry leaders, Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), and key partners such as the Philippine Retailers Association (PRA) and the Supply Chain Management Association of the Philippines (SCMAP). These multi-sectoral dialogues were instrumental in identifying the sector’s key challenges and in formulating responsive, inclusive solutions tailored to the unique realities of the Philippines.

The wholesale and retail trade sector is a significant economic engine for the Philippines. As of 2024, it represents 18% of the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), which amounts to PHP 4.9 Trillion. The sector also serves as a crucial employment generator, currently employing 10.2 Million Filipinos or 21% of the total workforce, as of the same year.
